Moxibustion

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a technique of heating body surfaces or acupuncture points with a moxa stick, in most cases made from mugwort herb. Moxibustion may look like a cigar. It has a very strong warming and cleansing effect on the body. Such a “cigar” of moxa gets ignited by a practitioner who begins to work on specific points of the body with a pleasant warmth without touching the skin and rather hoovering with the moxa stick above the skin’s surface.

The use of moxibustion may strengthen immunity and support the body’s natural self-healing processes. This type of treatment has a supporting effect on the acupuncture treatment and is most often used for colds, weakness of the body, chronic muscle, and joint pain, frequent colds, rheumatic diseases, fertility, or menstrual problems.
